NetballSmart

The Healthy Heart of Netball

Based on research, NetballSmart promotes performance enhancement and reduces the risk of injury.  It is a comprehensive holistic Injury Prevention Programme (IPP) connecting not only coaches but also players, parents, officials, and governance.

Preparing your team before the tournament

We know that tournaments carry an increased risk for injury due to the number and intensity of games played over multiple days. The NetballSmart team is available to help teams prepare to mitigate injury risk by providing evidence-based education about both on-court and off-court habits.

  • Players who display safe movement skills under pressure are less likely to get injured and also perform better.

  • Players need to have multiple opportunities to practice efficient and safe movement skills in different scenarios and under game-like pressure.

    • Have a look at the Game Day Transition Skills resource for ideas on how to give multiple opportunities to players to embed safe movement skills.

  • Off-court habits are essential for managing energy levels ensuring recovery and optimal performance.

Umpires

Umpire load and energy demands also increase during tournaments with back-to-back days of umpiring. As athletes, NetballSmart encourages umpires to follow the same recovery guidelines as for players. However, umpires have different movement demands and therefore specific guidelines for preparation. Have a look at the UmpireSmart dynamic warm-up unique to umpires designed to optimise performance and mitigate this risk of injury.
